We have over 35,000 gallons of fish, coral and other wet items. There are 200 aquariums, ranging in size from 10 gallons to 150 gallons. Most of our fish are housed in 65, 75 or 125 gallon tanks. This includes 24 tanks for African cichlids, 9 for discus, 6 for rainbows, 10 for fancy goldfish and many 10-gallon tanks for specialty items such as L-number plecos, killifish, unusual livebearers, brackish-water fish and colorful exotic freshwater shrimp. There are numerous tanks dedicated to live aquatic plants with specimens as common as bunch plants and as exotic as Aponogeton bulb plants such as the Madagascar Lace Plant. At the front of the store there is a 3,000 gallon South American display full of large fish including red devils, oscars, wolf cichlids, pacus, red-tailed catfish and tiger shovelnose. Here, the star attraction is "Flapjack" - a freshwater stingray with a diameter of well over four feet. Across from the tropical "tank-busters" exhibit is a large pond with many colorful varieties of koi. These are all well in excess of two feet in length - and they are all for sale! On the small side of things, we typically stock over 200 bettas of various types and all the equipment necessary to keep them at home. Our indoor goldfish department always has a good supply of fish including moors, fantails, shubunkins, sarassas, golden orfs, celestials, lionheads, telescopes, etc. And when pond season is in full swing, you can visit our outdoor greenhouse to view domestic and Japanese koi, goldfish and a massive selection of both aquatic and marginal plants for ponds and environs. But we are just getting started - for if you love African cichlids you can find well over 30 types at any given time with representatives from Lakes Malawi, Tanganyika, Victoria and a few other surprising locations. Right next to Africa is the marine department where reef fish and coral reign supreme. You can buy a coral "frag" for $14.99 or a massive head for $249.99. Likewise, the fish may be $6.99 up to $249.99 depending on your choice. The selection of fish changes from week to week (as does the invertebrate stock) so keep a look out on Facebook for the latest and greatest additions! Moving back to freshwater, you can always expect 30-50 types of live aquatic plants to choose from. These are displayed in dedicated tanks as well as tanks throughout the department. Our display tanks are fully decorated so you can see what tank decor is all about in addition to providing a secure habitat for the fish while they are in our care. The freshwater livestock comes from all over the world - both captive-raised and wild-caught. We are the only store in Tidewater and probably Virginia to hand-select our domestic tropicals from Florida fish farms. New shipments arrive on a regular basis and each one is brought directly from Florida to our store in our own vehicle. We control the livestock from selection to sales. No other store can say that. If you need something "Live" to feed your fish - say no more - for we stock a large number of live "feeders"; small and large goldfish, rosy reds, guppies, brine shrimp, black worms, grass shrimp (in season), earthworms and night crawlers. What about commercially manufactured foods for your fish? We have over 50 running feet of shelf space stocked with a variety of brands; Tetra, Sera, Omega, San Francisco Bay, Cobalt, API, Hikari, Spectrum, etc. If your fish prefer frozen food, we have two large freezers filled with cubes and flat packs of many different types of food. When it comes to aquarium supplies, you can count on a full compliment of everything needed to set up and maintain a successful aquarium. There is always a great selection of tanks, stands, glass tops, lighting fixtures, gravel, rocks, decor items, heaters, filters, water pumps, power heads, air pumps and aquarium maintenance kits. To support these products we have light bulbs, filter cartridges, air stones, air hose, carbon, tank backgrounds, and more! To keep your tank water healthy, we offer water conditioning products, live bacteria, water chemistry adjustors, water clarifiers, test kits and much more.
